My Sister’s Library Decorated for the Holidays

Last year I posted the reveal of this room in my sister Elizabeth’s home that we immediately dubbed ‘The Most Beautiful Room in the World’ (because she had lived too long with the BEFORE which consisted of ugly 80s black leather furniture).

And because I posted it at the end of November, I thought I’d wait until this year to show you how we decorated it for Christmas!

Photos by Macy Yap Photography

Wreaths on the windows always look good. These are sitting on 3M hooks we stuck to the window!

My sweet nephews Markus (left) and William (right).

The oversize pink Christmas balls Elizabeth found at HomeSense make this tree in my opinion!

I can’t believe how fast they grow, remember when they were this small?

Hope you enjoyed the little tour of this room!

Are you ready for the holidays to begin? This week is so busy!

PS. Last minute gift idea could be one of my ebooks if shipping is too late!

If you are working on a new build, NOW is the time to get your order in! January is a very busy time for new builds especially.

So beautiful and how lucky you could find pale pink Christmas ornaments. It was the detail that really brought everything together!!

  • Tina Meyer says:

Elizabeth’s rooms are decorated so beautifully with lovely bright colours. You have such a talent, Maria. I hope you all enjoy your Xmas.

  • Heidi says:

I absolutely love it. That is the second room I’ve seen there you just have 4 chairs around an ottoman, and I like it so much better than couches.
I went back and read your original post on decorating her room and had a question. You said that synthetic rugs have come a long way. If wool is too expensive for your pet/kid house, do you have a recommendation on what fabric/type you should look for in a rug? (And not the natural grasses ones, but the ones that look more like wool or carpet) Thank you!

    • Maria Killam says:

I believe this was just a nylon rug, 11 x 13 for less than $400! It’s held up great, no shedding. Hope that helps, Maria

Love this!! It’s fun to see the use of non-Tradional colors!! Also the big dramatic ornaments make a huge impact!! Thanks for sharing!! Once again- you have opened my eyes and challenged my old ways- to move on to a newer, modern look!! Thanks!! Also- I love seeing your family!!

I loved the picture of the birches/aspens. Where was that purchased?

    • Maria Killam says:

That was from HomeSense, we would not go far in this town without that store 🙂 Maria

This is what the holidays is all about! The love between you and your sister and adorable nephews leaps off the screen. Your sister’s library is so gorgeous! The colors ( and arrangement) make it so harmonious and serene. I wish that room was in my house!

  • Vicki Hodgman says:

I love this! The blue and pink look so great together, and festive as well. I would like to know how wide the room is, I want to place 4 chairs with a small table between for a nice conversation area, and have only about 10 feet in one direction. Can I fit it?

  • Rhonda says:

I love this room!! Beautiful room! Beautiful family!!

  • Allyson says:

Lovely photo of you and Elizabeth! And lovely room, of course 🙂

  • Liz in Oregon says:

Vicki, I’m not Maria, but when I’ve wondered if I have room for a particular piece of furniture or arrangement, I’ve googled, looking for something like “will my furniture fit this space.” There are lots of helpful sites that tell you how much clearance you need, between a coffee table and a couch, or to walk around, for example. So I’m sure you can find out if the arrangement you want will work. I ditched my “too big” couch several years ago and went with arm chairs and end tables. My room is bigger so a coffee table wouldn’t be close enough, but I think you can make it work just fine.

Sigh, I adore this room, and love the colour combo:) Those two nephews of yours are almost young men, and very handsome;)

  • Rosemary says:

Though the room looks lovely, those are stunning family portraits! They will be cherished forever. Merry Christmas

  • Lucy says:

Maria I just can’t say enough about this beautiful room! Every detail is perfection? I love the color that makes the whole room united. This room should definitely be published! Most of all I love the pictures of your handsome family and the love you share. Have I said love too much? That is what life is about in my book and you express it through your design and teachings. Be sure to frame the picture of you and Elizabeth! That is a keeper!

Merry Christmas to you and your whole family!
