Make Something Ugly almost Disappear with Disney’s “Go Away Green”

I know it seems like I’m on vacation AGAIN! Because I am. . . with my adorable nephews in Disneyland this week. However, this vacation (which included a three day cruise from Vancouver to LA) was booked months ago. It’s Markus (6) and William (8) first time in Disneyland and Terreeia and I didn’t want to miss it! Maria & Markus A while ago, someone sent me this article on Disney’s Go ... Continue Reading

On Success, Compromise, and Living Your Dream

As some of you know, I just came back from a 3-week trip to Italy, something I’ve been talking and dreaming about on this blog ever since I started writing it almost 7 years ago. Two years ago, I got really close to going when Terreeia told me she had some friends who were going to be at their house in Italy. We could stay there and tour around. It seemed ... Cream is Old, White is New, and Other Thoughts About Italy

Turns out, Italy doesn't always follow the same rules we do when it comes to colour! There's something about that place that means they can do forest green and a bunch of different undertones with abandon, and somehow, it all still looks amazing. I can't wait to tell you about my trip, show you some photos of beautiful exteriors, and share a recipe for my favourite Italian cocktail! ... Continue Reading

Atlanta, Montreal and then Tuscany | Where will you be this Summer?

Every year since I’ve started writing this blog, when I write my goals for each year, I’ve posted about one of them being to go to Italy. Then two years ago when I told you Terreeia went to Italy with some friends without me, many of you thought I was nuts when I chose drapery over Italy. However, making that decision and finishing my house got it on the cover ... Continue Reading

A Good Professional is like a GPS but Better

Tuscany When was the last time you got lost? If you’re anything like me, you’re tempted to say it’s been awhile. Technology has made getting lost pretty much impossible. If we take even one wrong turn, Google Maps will frantically start recalculating to put us back on course before we hit the next intersection. It feels like a relief to those of us with no sense of direction. We’re going to end up at exactly Point ... Continue Reading

The Right Way (and the Wrong Way) to Install Porcelain Wood Floors

I’m here at the same house in Kauai we were in last year! This time, Terreeia and I are with my sister Elizabeth and her family. This is the view from the tub in the master bathroom ensuite. Elizabeth is enjoying a  quiet moment with her book. We passed by a charming diner and coffee joint that I want to share with you. Here it is from the outside: I love that the flowers match the ... The Coco Chanel Guide to Uncopyrighting (That’s What I’m Doing)

Have you read Mademoiselle: Coco Chanel and the Pulse of History? It’s the story of how the #1 luxury brand in the world was created. Coco Chanel was a self-made multimillionaire before she turned 40, and she was the founder of what is still the highest-earning privately owned luxury-goods manufacturer in the world. ‘Every day millions of women awake and costume themselves as some version of Coco Chanel, choosing from a vast array of simple and reproducible ... My Creative Business Model and How it’s Evolved

{maybe not this cold}  Some of you may have noticed that my posts have shifted considerably over the past few months to less rather than more. In the last year with all the time I’ve spent sitting in freezing cold hotel ballrooms looking at my business and thinking about what to do to make it better, I’ve learned that less is more. Way better to write a quality post, rather than ... Continue Reading

My 5 Rules for Life

{via pinterest} Have you ever thought about this statement with regards to an area in your life? “Every single day people stop when they don’t know what to do.” I talk to clients every day who tell me they have stopped shopping for their house because they’ve bought so many mistakes in the past and they don’t want to buy any more. Designers who don’t make as much money as they ... Continue Reading

Fall Fashion in Seattle with Elizabeth & Maria

Elizabeth Jacobs Every Fall, Elizabeth and I go to Seattle for the weekend to do some shopping. It’s always beautiful and sunny and we love the restaurants there. We had fabulous meals, everywhere. Plus I introduced her to Chipotles where we had lunch on the way down as well as Sunday! So fresh and yummy. Our first stop was Lululemon at the Outlet store in Burlington. {Henley} {Cropped Pants}{Racer Tank} We both picked ... Continue Reading

Sometimes I Just Feel like a Loser

You may have noticed that I’m light on the blog posts lately. It’s because I’ve been feeling like a loser. I write when I’m inspired, which luckily is most of the time. You’ll notice, I don’t have a schedule of posts with fabulous photos of my house I’ve taken myself with seasonal decor like some bloggers whom I greatly admire. I’m serious, I read her posts and I feel so ... Continue Reading

Nova Scotia is Red & White

Today we’ve driven almost entirely around the North side of the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island. These were the muskoka chairs sitting outside the B&B we stayed at in Maitland. I love that so many people have one chair of each colour. This is the main house that was built in 1859. The wood flooring was installed by shipbuilders and is approximately 2″ thick. The house was moved back into ... Continue Reading

Montreal & The Train to Halifax

First stop on our way to Halifax, we had a 5 hour layover in Calgary on our way to Montreal so of course I had to see my first Nephew Luukas! It was so great to have dinner with him and catch up. We took the red eye to Montreal and then walked back and forth on St. Catherines about 3 times before we finally decided to take a ... Continue Reading

Our First Date

Terreeia and I in 2007 In 1998 I was in a six month leadership course with Landmark Education. Terreeia was the head coach. I didn’t like my coach. One day while in a coaching conversation with her I got totally frustrated and ended up saying some mean things. Immediately after I hung up the phone I felt bad and didn’t know what to do about it. All my life I preferred to go straight to ... Continue Reading

Happy Turquoise & Purple Exterior in Christina Lake

We’re here in Christina Lake for a few days camping! I really prefer room service, but when you have kids, you either go to the cottage in the summer or you have a trailer and camp by the lake which is where my sister Elizabeth and her family are this week! So where my nephews are, that’s where you’ll find me eventually. Markus (my youngest Nephew) and Terreeia We arrived on ... Continue Reading
