We’ve Come a Long Way Baby!

My True Colour Expert Workshops have come a long way since the first course we launched in May 2010.

June 2011 was when I had the good fortune of meeting my right hand and associate Irene Hill who attended that workshop and with her multi-talented writing and computer skills, has turned our workbook/manual into such a professional looking and valuable tool.

Here are a few of the talented women who were in Toronto this month:

Tracy Nardone & Sue Hilbrich

Joanna Wise, Kimberly Wright and Vanessa Welch

Alison Griffith, Wendy Sas & Jean Brown

Then three workshops ago we introduced fabric samples. Maxwell Fabrics was generous enough to provide me with the upholstery fabrics we used in Toronto this time.

Having upholstery fabrics in all the undertones adds another layer of hands-on learning with the added benefit of giving participants samples they can specify right away for clients as soon as they get home, and of course in the correct neutral undertone.

When I was a new decorator, I made a few mistakes when specifying upholstery fabrics in the beginning of my career because I was just as overwhelmed with the selection as the homeowner was.

It’s one of the reasons I think leather furniture is so popular. With upholstery fabrics, the options are endless, ‘Where do you start?’ but colours in leather are significantly less and you can almost count on one hand which colours you would choose from.

Caesarstone provides us with their most popular quartz samples and Gentek with vinyl siding and gutter/downspout samples.

Toronto was sold out one week before the event and my November 14 – 16, 2012 workshop is already SOLD OUT and we already have a few people on the waiting list so register now for the next one here in Vancouver, February 6, 7 & 8, 2013 or Toronto, April 24, 25 & 26, 2013.

“Loved the class! First time ever and was sorry for each day to end!” Gwen De Bruyn

By the way, my up cycled Kate Spade Inspired end table for Habitat for Humanity won the competition! Thanks so much everyone for voting for me! You’re the best!

This past weekend I had so much fun speaking on the main stage at the Vancouver Home + Design Show, I met people I hadn’t seen in years who came to say hi! Many thanks to Jill Kivett, the Show Manager, Amanda Haines and my publicist Carine Redmond for everything they did to promote us all leading up to this event!
