  • M Gans says:

I love looking at curtains but have such a hard time making the final decision. I like the citrine ones!

  • Beth L says:

Is it worse to leave windows uncovered, or to have them filled with metal blinds that belong in a fading office complex? I have trained my children horribly and have allowed them to color (with pink marker) on the object of my distaste in the hopes of replacing the beige blinds sometime this century.

  • Kristie says:

Ooh, most of my drapes are from ikea. I could definitely use some lovelier ones. Thanks for the giveaway. Love your blog and design ideas.

New build = no draperies yet other than one set I bought on clearance at Cdn Tire, so clearly I need help! Or pity. Perhaps mocking. For curtains in a bedroom, is there a rule of thumb regarding the length below the sill/above the frame?

  • InfoDiva says:

Love the yellows! I’m old enough to remember the last time these bright yellows were often used–by Mario Buatta in the 1980s. He was known as the “Prince of Chintz.” Largely due to his influence, glazed floral chintz, often outline quilted, was everywhere and everyone wanted his English country look.

This new take on yellow looks so much fresher. I love it!

  • Monique says:

  • Robin says:

Wonderful! I wonder what would look best with a black leather couch? Grays? Turquoise? Gray-Green? Don’t you love the possibilities?

  • DAS says:

When design elements pair and work and often are unexpected, you wonder what was the inspiration, the fabric or the painting? Notice the ground on the vase blends with the ground of the acanthus leaf gold. The pink wall–it has texture, was it a finish or was it fabric or wallpaper? So many things to keep the eye entertained.

  • Tracy G says:

Love that dwell fabric….I have it in navy blue and its gorgeous. It has such great colors in it, I’m using it in a navy blue room with blue accents on some chairs….that have yet to be ordered yet but I had to have the fabric.

What a fun contest. Just took a peek at Nena’s website and see that I could spend a long time there dreaming up many rooms and planning the ones I have. Love your last photo with the wonderful touches of green because I’m a “green” girl. Even better, what a simple but brilliant inspiration for all those clients and readers stuck with those huge brown leather sofas and chairs and whose hubbies and/or budgets won’t let them replace yet even though the brown trend is so over.

The drapes are stunning but it’s because you have that great decorating knowledge of what to place them with. We are getting our house made wheelchair accessible for my husband. It’s been a long wait of 18 years for him getting around from the floor so he’s excited for the accessibility of the house and I am for the chance to decorate and make it a beautiful and cheerful home. New drapes like the ones above would be the icing so to speak on the cake. Love you site and all the great sharing of tips too

She lives&works on my town…huntington NY. Right now in her shop window she has drapes done in her Duralee fabric Margeaux in bright green. The best part is a dressmaker detail; softly gathered ruffle on the leading edges. Nice touch

My daughter, who has had a string of hospitalizations recently, is going to start decorating her room in the new house we are moving to. She loves red and has picked out a raspberry red damask wallpaper for an accent wall. I love the yellow sofa against the raspberry red walls though I think she would prefer something with black in it for her drapes. In any case, thanks for reminding me about the DWELL fabrics. I’ll bet I can find something she likes.

  • Mary says:

I really want to add window draperies in my bedroom, however both windows, on the same wall, are off-center. I would greatly appreciate a future post on selecting fabric patterns and hanging curtains to help disguise this architectural frustration. Thanks!

  • Mary says:

Wow beautiful fabrics and inspiration pics! I love pink , but would never have thought of pairing it with yellow. What a happy combo!

I too would love a pair of drapes. I have plantation shutters for years. Chosen because I thought drapes were old fashioned and didn’t want to deal with fading, dust, dry cleaning etc. However I’ve come to realize some of these windows look unfinished and would benefit from drapes to add color, style and warmth.

Starting to think about redoing my bedroom which has 3 large windows close together in an angled bay. They have white plantation shutter on them and I think the area would look great if framed by drape panels on the outer sides. A geometric pop of color perhaps!

  • Rita says:

Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! Puh-lease!! We’ve been dealing with the ups and downs of renovations for approx. 3 months (2 months later than originally thought). We are now in the process of fixing some of the contractor’s *mistakes* (kindest word I could find) and diving into the decorating stage… so we can finally put the place up for sale (2 months late/nearing the end of the ‘better’ real estate season… argh). I could seriously use some drapes + pillows since I’ve spent every waking minute for the past few months lugging things back and forth from various stores. SO stuck on the bedroom. <— I type this as our new handyman attempts to fix the grouting job in the kitchen. Serenity now. 🙂
