It’s Time for Colour!

By 03/28/2010January 23rd, 201713 Comments

I have never had such a great time shopping in my life (I’m still in the States doing my Spring shop) and you know why? I’m buying colour because I’ve finally figured out how to wear it so it looks just as classic as wearing neutrals (blog post on that soon).

And it’s the same with your home. We love colour, but how do we inject it into our homes without looking like we tried and failed?

“I grew up in Florida – that’s where I got my love of colour. I’m not shy about a shocking pink here or there, an acid green, you can’t scare me.”

That’s what this blog is all about!

I’m back from Seattle tonight and I’ll be giving you a glimpse of an exterior consultation I did in Mercer Island this weekend so stay tuned.

In the meantime I wanted to share this quote from Ashley Whittaker with you. It’s in House Beautiful’s March issue. I just flipped through and snapped this photo with my camera (sorry for the wonky image).

Happy Sunday!

That's exactly what I need Maria – how to wear colour the right way.

I have a pinky-purple leather blazer and I only wear it with black so I can't wait to learn how to wear it properly.

I learned from a wonderful prof. that you must base your wardrobe on neutrals and then add color, for fashion and flair. Each season, there is always a colour that is promoted and "the" color and that is indeed a way to keep things fresh. As i grow, I adore color.

It's true, I'm sure the light has a lot to do with how you feel about colour. I grew up in Queensland with strong bright light and the Queenslanders love colour. They have coloured sofas!! Now living in Sydney, neutrals are definitley preferred with just hints of colour and further south in Melbourne black and dark colours dominate.

I find that I'm bolder in my wardrobe than decorating and I'm guessing that is true for a lot of people. For me it has to do with how much more expensive the decisions are for decorating. I can replace a coat that is in the wrong colour a lot cheaper than I can a sofa.

I have for so many years been a black and white girl, but have been adding colour of late…so much fun!
Pink is one of my faves, along with lavander!

Oh I'm excited to read this post! I think I could use the help. For as much as I love color – I do wear it, but it's not as fun as my house – I need some help 🙂
