Holiday Dinner Party at Colour Me Happy

By 12/22/2012January 28th, 201714 Comments

Thursday night we hosted a small gathering for my fabulous associate Irene Hill, her husband Kevin,  Cary Blackburn who manages my website for me and his wife Deanna.

It was just Christmas lights and candelight when they first arrived, with a glass of Prosecco.

Irene arrived in a fabulous cape so we had to take a picture!

ps. Rebecca, I am wearing this same outfit to your party Sunday night, I don’t have a different dress. Plus I really want to wear my new Kate Spade necklace again.

Are you tired of seeing my mantle yet? Well too bad, here it is again!

My nephew Luukas was our server that night. He was fabulous!  Look at the tray he’s just arranged to take out.

One of Irene’s Christmas presents from me were these Marc Jacobs rain boots so she immediately tried them on and then wore them the whole evening. When I found them for her I wanted a pair for myself so bad, but alas they were out of my size.

Then as I shopped downtown that day, I noticed EVERYONE seems to be wearing rain boots now, even over leather. A huge trend that I am now not part of yet, haha. The only rain boots I currently own smelled so badly of rubber when I got them a couple years ago they had to sit permanently outdoors and then the lining disintegrated.

Here you’ll see a glimpse of my neighbours outdoor Christmas lights.

 Irene and her husband Kevin.

Luukas pouring wine.

Cary Blackburn and his wife Deanna.

Here’s Deanna’s place card. I found these floating tea light holders that I’ve had for years when we moved, a little red food colouring and they glowed as a centrepiece.

It was a 7 course dinner, Here’s the creme caramel.

Thank you Irene for all the brilliant copywriting you do along with so many other countless tasks that only someone as multi-talented as you could do!

Thank you Cary for being so easy to work with. The hardest part about having a business on the internet is finding the right people to help you move to the next level. You’re the best!

Irene gave me Season 1 & 2 of Downton Abby to watch over the holidays. Can’t wait, I hear it’s really good!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend everyone!

  • Everything looks lovely and you and Irene are adorable. I’m getting the first season of Downton Abbey for Christmas as well and I can’t wait.

It looks so festive, but all of us foodies out here really want the entire menu! How is the LOYL loving cooking in your new kitchen? CTD

  • We held a holiday party last night ….30 people! It was fabulous…all Christmas lights and candles here too with the fireplace aglow 🙂

A few people sat down to play our grand piano, guests met new friends, old friends connected. The evening was magical!

And most of all, the entire party cost only $30 total! Because it was open-house style, we only served cake & coffee so friends could easily come and go. But we served everything on my mother-in-law’s vintage English and German china, fabric napkins, glass glasses.

It was wonderful….and now back to all the hand washing of dishes 🙂

I would have loved to be a mouse in the corner at your beautiful party Maria! Fabulous home, food, everything! Just incredible! Thank you so much for sharing your photos 🙂

Re Teresa’s comment; a seven course meal does sounds intriguing Maria. I am sure it was delicious and how nice you had such a handsome server.

In regards to your friend Irene Hill my knee-jerk reaction and due to the beautiful cape she is wearing, out of curiosity is there perhaps a connection between her and a women’s dress shop that I use to frequently shop at? (I always did love their selection.)

With all the above said and before closing off …..

What a lovely group of people. I know this sounds nosey and it probably is….but Maria you have never had a photo of your partner. I am assuming you have a partner because you have often written ‘we’.
Just wondered who ‘we’ was. And does ‘we’ appreciate your decorating/colour talents?
Merry Christmas to you and your family from hot and steamy Darwin, Australia.

  • It looks absolutely beautiful Maria. Merry Christmas. Hope you enjoy those rain boots!

Maria – I just wanted to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season. I am so happy for you that you have made a home near your mother and sisters and of course the sweet sweet nephews. Hope your Christmas day was chaotic – the sort of day that those without loving family long for.

And of course – all the best in the new year with your business and the final house renos.
