Why blogging is good for your Career

By 02/09/2009January 26th, 201717 Comments

This is a rendering Michelle Morelan from A Schematic Life just whipped up from my “Colours of Provence” post the other day. I love how she called it “Maria’s Villa”. It was the one I stayed in during my visit to France two years ago.

If you are reading this and still thinking about starting a blog, this is one reason why you should. Suddenly you are part of a local as well as international community of bloggers. You get to meet and hang with other talented individuals in your industry, that’s the really exciting part. If you are still wondering if the time and effort is worth it, read this article I came across the other day. If that doesn’t sell you, nothing else will. I spent hours reading this blog when I found it. This woman is brilliant!

The other thing blogging does is greatly improve your writing skills. I just wrote an article for a magazine to be published in April (that I’m getting paid to write by the way—because of this blog) and in the past I would have edited it (with my partner who is a writer) a million times before I would have sent it to ANYONE. This time, I wrote it, emailed it, she [the editor] tweaked it a bit, and it’s good to go. That would NEVER have happened in the past. Prior to starting this blog! Still not convinced? Read this one too.
Thanks Michelle for the beautiful drawing and for the mention!

You’ve dropped by our blog – Kelly and I are completely NEW at this, but we’re enjoying ourselves so much! I can’t imagine why I didn’t start blogging sooner – and I’m sure Kelly feels the same way!! Thank you for the article links – I’m on my way home right now to read them!

Great post, and congratulations! Blogging can indeed expand one’s horizons and business presence. I particularly delight when my favorite blogs get the recognition that they deserve – like yours!

I thought that Penelope’s points were interesting, especially the one about not starting a blog under a pseudonym. Many of us who started blogs years ago did not know where blogging would take us, and I agree that using a pseudonym does create a wall from the get go…maybe intentional, but maybe a wall that needs to eventually come down. 😉

Hi! Great post! I was just over at A Schematic Life so I thought I was seeing double when I saw the rendering!

I agree wholeheartedly with all of your thoughts on blogging. Being fairly new to it myself, I’m amazed at what I’ve found.

Thanks for the great links too. I also spent a good bit of time at the Brazen Careerist Blog.

    I’ll be back!

I’m new to blogging (just started a few weeks ago), and I’m LOVING it!! I’ve found so many great pictures and read lots of interesting posts on the blogs I’ve discovered. I find something new every day 🙂

The best thing about blogging is that I get to do combine two of my favourite things — decorating and writing 🙂

Thanks for checking out my Met Monday post — I hope you enjoyed my brightly coloured car 🙂
