So many of us just need that one perfect neutral for the main areas of our home and then you can introduce colour in the dining room, powder room and the bedrooms.
But which one is it? Which of the 9 neutral undertones that exist will you choose from?
This is where most people spend the most time agonizing over the right colour. After all, paint will take up the most square footage in your home and it’s the first thing you’ll notice every time you walk into your home. If it’s wrong, it will bother you every day. If it’s right, it’ll fill you with joy when you see it.
In the 80’s, accent walls were a big trend because we were just starting to get used to painting every single wall a colour or neutral. In the 90’s we looked for colour to do a lot of heavy lifting and every room was a different colour back then.
But what if you really do have a blank slate? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Testing 9 different paint colours will mostly not help you finalize ‘the perfect neutral’ for you.
A lot of the advice you’ll read about choosing paint colours can be kind of fluffy and just not useful at all.
Advice that sounds like “Look in your closet, that will inform you”, “Get inspiration from the sunset” or “Just choose a colour you love, you can’t go wrong when you do that?” this list goes on. . .
However, if you’ve been reading my blog at all, you’ll already know that your choice must be informed by your fixed elements and/or furnished items. It’s rare that anyone can walk into a brand new house and choose virtually any colour they want.
How can we do this on-line?
“Because getting colour right is much more about choosing the correct undertone than being able to predict what and how the colour will change in the light.” It’s rare that we can’t help you on-line but sometimes it happens, perhaps you’re unable to photograph the space properly, or because of a combination of different factors we simply cannot see what we need to see in order to help you get your colours right. If this happens, we’ll know we can’t help simply by viewing your photos before we begin and we’ll refund your money.
Your Colour Advice will arrive within 5-7 business days.
One final note:
Let’s say you buy this consultation thinking that it’s the only thing you need to transform your space into an after picture. In many cases, that could be true…but sometimes, the result you’re after will require that you purchase an additional consultation. If that’s the case, we’ll let you know before we do anything, and we’ll give you the option to either purchase the additional constulation, or to receive a complete refund of the consult you’ve already purchased.
When you get colour advice from the Maria Killam team, WE ARE NOT GUESSING. We will not be asking you questions like “What do you think?” Unless you really do have two choices where both will work equally as well and still give you the classic and timeless look you want for your home. What we will do is use our experience and expertise to find you the perfect colour solution that will work in your specific design situation.
