  • Congrats! You are so right about the purple and to grey it down. I used African Violet in a room once, which was north facing, it was perfect {it has a bit of grey – right?} BUT when I used it in a west facing room, the purple really read strong, despite the grey. In the end I went with a whole new look and painted it White Dove.

I have become so much better at looking at colour just from following along your blog – thanks!

  • congrats on all the good news – so exciting. I hope you like purple because that’s a lot of purple you had to work with. It looks great, but no way would I ever decorate with that much purple.

  • Thank YOU, Maria! It was great catching up with you, and I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to share your wealth of colour wisdom with our readers. All my very best!

good work Maria on being front and center in Canadian Living! I just realized why I have been so resistant on buying your e-book – i don’t like the name e-book, it is not appealling or sexy and does not evoke the wonderful feeling that a book does. Maybe another name?

I’ve been on the purple and gray bandwagon for some time now…it’s my go-to favorite combo for clothes … It was the palette for my wedding (nearly ten years ago). It’s nice to see it featured in on your blog (via Canadian Magazine). Yes, graying the purples is key. Fortunately my husband is anything but a color-phobe (!), and he is all on board. We have different shades of muted purples and lots of periwinkle blues throughout the house, and our neutrals are grays. We also have some golden, buttery yellows (containing orange) which of course play nicely as complements.

We are in the midst of a major home Reno, however, so it will be interesting to see where we go with color!

Maria , it’s so interesting to read about your own Reno project. Thanks for your willingness to post and share all the nitty gritty.

And of kudos, of course, for the well- deserved recognition. Congrats from down here in the US.

    Oh Maria!
I had a Mother’s Day supper with my hubby tonight, and we were getting all excited about moving and our new, very old, house. I wasn’t sure if I should mention you and the sorta-maybe-iffy agreement we had made to hire you. But he managed to bring you up all on his own, saying what a “relief” it was that we would be hiring you since it gets him off the loop of answering the “what do YOU think?” question a gazillion times and then inevitably being blamed for the mistake later! I promised him I would post this on your blog. I did it under this topic because I was *going* to mention your new press as another reason why you seem to be the Mozart of colour, but never needed to! Congrats on the article and can’t wait to hire you in July!!!
