Last night we had dinner in Redmond with jewelry designer and artist Cassandra Shaw and her husband. They live half the year in Puerto Vallarta where her gallery is located.

She is quite famous there for her paintings of chickens. This one (above) is from her website. There are some she paints over and over because they sell so well and everyone that buys one says theirs is the best one (of course).

I really liked this one on the yellow wall in her kitchen!

It was almost dark when we arrived last night so we had a quick tour of the 4 acre farm.

Some live chicken inspiration 🙂

Here are her amazing bean poles, where’s Jack when you need him?

I liked this photo even though it’s dark. . . it feels very fall like.

We got a little peak of her studio with paintings in progress.

She gets her inspiration from a book called Extraordinary Chickens. I had to photograph this one, I’ve never seen such a fluffy chicken!

Some salt & pepper shakers at our dinner table, so cute!

Loved this one sitting on the china cabinet!

And here is another painting in her dining room. I’ve never seen such an amazing collection of all kinds of different chickens in every shape and size all throughout the house. Usually you just see them in kitchens.
Do you have a chicken in your kitchen?
ps. Stay tuned, I’m going to post about my shopping trip in Seattle with my favourite fashion stylist, Angie from You Look Fab!

Let me guess what you DIDN'T have for dinner!!
I used to have a chicken statue in my kitchen long ago when I was into the country style of decorating. But my style has changed & it went to Goodwill.

We have a chicken in our kitchen. And elephants in 3 other rooms.

  • That white fluffy chicken is a scream! Isn't it amazing what ispires people to do what they love? I can't wait for the Angie post. I would give my right arm for a shopping trip with her!

Awe, Redmond is my home town. Glad you had a fun experience down there. There are lots of fun neighborhoods around the Seattle area. I would suggest finding time to visit Fremont if you have any free time during your stay.

Hi Maria. I've been scouring the internet for photos of homes with maple woodwork so I can find a color for our home. The home we just moved into has white AND maple woodwork. It seems every home pictured has white woodwork. The main part of our home is Concord Ivory (love the color), but don't think it brings out the maple…

Do I have chickens? when I began to decorate my kitchen/breakfast room in a french country design people started giving me roosters, which I did not want. So I would tell people I collect funky chickens and that is what I have. made from gourds, ceramic, papier mache you name it. I love each and every one of them but remember they are funky chickens, not roosters! Great artwork!

I actually have a huge rooster basket in my breakfast room. It holds napkins – fabric ones most of the time and paper during a large party. People either love it or hate it. I love it, the husband hates it. 😉

Oh my goodness! I love Cassandra's art! Those loose brushstrokes are right up my alley.

We use to keep our eggs in a wire basket chicken on the kitchen counter. It looked so sweet! But I kept on breaking the eggs when I refilled the chicken which is why I ultimately had to retire the wired foul. Oh well!

    Maria,

Love the paintings, farm and the studio. No chicken in my kitchen but my sister has some. A great theme for county french design as well.

I adore chickens Maria! I'm known as 'The Chicken Lady' to many of my friends. I love them in my home, which I admit is country style, and I love raising them. I love their breeds, colors, and just their sweet and funny antics in the yard. Too bad the foxes love them too. Sigh.. I have that calendar. The chicken you took a photo of is a silkie. I had two and even had to trim their bangs so they wouldn't be so timid in the coop. They tend to be that way since that can't see well. Sadly, they can't roost as high either which makes them vulnerable to predators. But they are the sweetest and most docile chickens ever. It's a fascinating world, but I won't take up your comment space with it. I think Chickens make great 'decor'. Especially the ones in the calendar your friend is painting from. My Belgian Bearded Ducal (French breed) was worthy of a painting for sure.

    What a fun post Maria!
