Colour Me Happy is 4 Years Old!

By 10/31/2012January 28th, 201719 Comments

Can you believe I’ve been blogging for four years? I post an average of every second day and this is my 849th blog post!

The second post I wrote was October 31, 2008 and this is what my nephew William looked like 4 years ago.

Here he is this year at 5 years old. It was a rainy night tonight so he had his Super Puppy cape over his raincoat!

Here’s Markus the dinosaur! When his hat wouldn’t stay on with the little tiny piece of velcro at his chin, I came out of the bedroom with a safety pin. When I announced ‘I’ve got a pin!’ he said “Will it pinch me?”

Here’s William with a little practice trick or treat at our door!

These were some impressive candy-bots on our street, they gave you a rating for the amount and quality of candy that went into their costumes, haha!

This is my Colour Me Happy pumpkin. There were so many amazing, creative pumpkins on our street I was clear mine was the job of an amateur carver, but there is always next year.

There were lights in the witches hat but they did not show up well in the dark! We have a fun street with lots of kids, thankfully we only had about 5 small candy bars left.

My sister Anita is always posting stuff Noah says on her Facebook page (he’s 7, below), this is what he said about Halloween:

Noah: Mom what does rip mean?

Anita: rip?

Noah: Ya, like on the things with the bones on it for halloween! I want a rip to decorate for Halloween.

Anita: R.I.P. is not a word it stands for rest in peace. It marks the grave where people are buried. . .

Noah: When you die I’ll get you a rip. I’ll get daddy one too but your rip will be nicer.

Anita: I’m touched.

Happy Halloween my lovelies! xo Maria

Maria, I assume have seen tons of ‘color discrimination tests’ – thought this one was interesting, and wondered what you thought.

  • Yes, you are always up late! Congratulations on 4 years. You have really touched my life and it was capped off by the wonderful Color Workshop this past June in Toronto. I am so glad I found your blog when researching for my new WHITE KITCHEN almost 3 years ago. It still looks as fresh and current as the day I started the process. Best wishes and blessings always, Jennifer

  • Congratulations, Maria! That is a real accomplishment. You are such an inspiration to so many. Best, Ellen

Congratulations on four years Maria! Your blog is so wonderfully inspiring.

  • Susan @ Susan Silverman Designs says:

Congrats Maria on 4 years on a job well done! Even though I only discovered your blog about 6 months ago, I have read many of your archived ones and enjoyed them all. I can feel your passion in what you do and look forward to every new one,

  • Fran says:

Congrats on four wonderful (and colorful) years of blogging, Maria! Here’s to the next four!

This is an adorable post Maria. You were a topic of discussion on a recent plane ride when my seat mate got on with 6 expensive kitchen decorating magazines. I told her about white kitchens and gray trends that I hate and all about undertones, even giving examples from the plane decor. She made me laugh when she asked if I’m a decorator. I told her about your blog and wrote it on one of her kitchen magazines. Hopefully, she’s found you. Don’t let your blog overwhelm your ‘real’ life, but keep writing for those of us who enjoy being your long distance friends. You are bursting with creativity!

  • Wow Maria look at all you’ve accomplished in 4 years, I admire your drive. I know I’ve already told you, but your color blog was my first for inspiration and like minded creative friends. Your blog gets better all the time!

I’m curious – did you have a mentor? If not, then even bigger Congratulations! A lot can happen in 4 years when you put your mind to it.

  • Congrats Maria! I’ve enjoyed your blog so much over the past few years, and learned a lot from you!!! I’m so grateful that you’re still at it, and put so much energy into your blog. Thanks a million!

  • Wow, congratulations Maria, it has only been a little less than six months since I “found” you. You talk about the power of finding mentors in the business but you are making this possible for all of us out here that haven’t been able to do this yet. I feel you are a great mentor, and inspire us even if it’s by distance and with the help of the world wide web. I wish you continued happiness and even greater success in your world!

  • Your blog is a wonderful source of information Maria! I talk about you and your color concepts all the time in my work…I can’t thank you enough for the valuable color wisdom and design advice you share. 🙂 🙂 xoxo-Jill

  • Congrats on four years – yours is one of my favourite blogs. That is too funny what your nephew said. I’m glad she writes his funny conversations down. I hope she keeps them as well as she will forget when he gets older. Our youngest always said the funniest things and now we’ve forgotten all but a few of his howlers.

I can’t believe 4 years has passed! During those years I’ve re-decorated my entire home, all while referring to your blog for guidance. All that’s left to do is to paint my kitchen cabinets white. Thank you for helping me along the way.

  • Sue says:

Wow, has it really been four years already! Love your blog. My mother and I are both very “color sensitive” and now I understand why color drives us crazy or make us happy. So a happy anniversary to you and thank you for sharing knowledge and joy.
