Happy New Year from Big White

Okay, we're here and it's the first time I have been on skis for over 10 years – eeeek! This photo is taken from our Apres Ski spot where we had the most awesome veggie falafels and salad for a snack at the end of the day. I was scared today when I got on the hill but Elizabeth had… Continue reading

Vancouver Colour Consultant: The Best White for Carrara Marble

Screen shot 2011-11-26 at 9.24.33 PM

Since Carrara Marble is so trendy right now, I thought it would help to write a post on which whites work the best with it for your white kitchen or bathroom. Carrara Marble will look the best with a plain white like BM OC-65 Chantilly Lace or Decorator White (below) or even a white with a blue undertone like Pure White OC-64. If you are choosing a standard white from a cabinet manufacturer, just make sure they are close to any of the above and your cabinets will look great. Continue reading

Vancouver Colour Consultant: Westin Sets Its Own Colour Trends

Number1

BM 145 Honeybell The best part of arriving at a tropical destination is how the air smells the minute you walk off the plane. I think you can begin to see why I loved this resort so much when I stayed here around 10 years ago (my last beach vacation). Westin Los Cabos Famed architect, Javier Sordo Madeleno, created the… Continue reading

New Drapes for My Mom's Carriage House

Screen shot 2011-11-08 at 7.11.27 AM

Photos by Maria Killam My mom's new drapes match the fall foliage outside! So pretty. Before Most living rooms really are so sad without drapery (unless it's super contemporary of course). This room has three windows and even with all the colourful furniture and pink walls it was still lacking a feeling of warmth. Also the rectangular oak coffee table… Continue reading

Family Room Before & After (Sneak Peek)

Yesterday I had an installation and I thought I'd show you what it looks like so far. This client has just finished a huge, main floor renovation and this is the furniture that just arrived! Now keep in mind, this furniture is for the family room so it's about comfort! She wanted a tight back sofa as well because she… Continue reading

When can you Ignore the Carpet Colour (if it's bad)?

source I recently posted about an on-line consultation where my client had a very bossy carpet. In the main living areas of the house, you should try very hard not to ignore the wall-to-wall carpeting when decorating your home. So if your carpet clearly has a strong undertone of either green, pink or yellow beige, (let alone an actual colour)… Continue reading

Sunflower Yellow; Where are yoooooooooou?

The reason you have not seen the corner bookshelves in my living room yet is because I had lights installed on two sets of shelves going across all 5 of them and in between is a glass shelf. This means I can't stick books on these shelves (except on the bottom shelf) or the light won't come through the glass. … Continue reading

What is the Colour of Fun?

flickr Mark Woodman is the incoming president of the Color Marketing Group starting in 2011.  At the conference last weekend we had a presentation called C20 where 20 colour professionals had one minute to present 'What's Next'.  My favourite was Mark's question. A day at the beach (flickr) He said he noticed from just observing the world around him that… Continue reading

I'm here at High Point in North Carolina with some of my favourite people! It's also the perfect place to test out the comfort level of the new fall shoes I bought with Angie at You Look Fab last weekend! Love this polka dot vase with the yellow wall the colour of my sofa! Here at the airport, I'm wearing… Continue reading

Top Ten Throw Pillows

Lately I've been obsessed with toss cushions because I'm selecting fabrics for the pillows that will be on my new sofa and in the bedrooms. I never design a room for a client without them. Here are my favourites: Samantha Pynn 1. Love this big floral for the drama and the way it pulls together the kelly green and turquoise.… Continue reading
