Since Carrara Marble is so trendy right now, I thought it would help to write a post on which whites work the best with it for your white kitchen or bathroom. Carrara Marble will look the best with a plain white like BM OC-65 Chantilly Lace or Decorator White (below) or even a white with a blue undertone like Pure White OC-64. If you are choosing a standard white from a cabinet manufacturer, just make sure they are close to any of the above and your cabinets will look great. Continue reading

Vancouver Interior Designer: The Truth about Cloud White

Screen shot 2011-10-13 at 8.10.43 PM

I think it's kind of funny that one of my most read posts is one of the first 5 that I wrote when I started this blog almost 3 years ago, "The Best Trim Colours–NOT Cloud White". Since then, I always have to heavily explain why I'm specifying it when I do. My clients are like "WHAT you're giving me Cloud White? I read that post Maria!" Continue reading

Vancouver Interior Designer: Can You Have White Kitchen Cabinets in a Dark Room?

I have been asked this question a few times. Whenever someone has read "A Light Colour will Never come to Life in a Dark Room".

Can you have white cabinets in a dark kitchen? Yes. Here's where I totally break that rule. Your cabinets are like furniture and I would put white furniture anywhere regardless of how dark or light the room was.
It's also the reason why I would not paint the walls the same colour as the cabinets.

Is White Worth the Extra Maintenance? Yay or Nay

source The other day I received this note: "We had a house built this year and the builder would not put in the white cabinets I have always wanted, its a cookie cutter builder who just wasn't offering that in our neighborhood. To me this was crazy, all I have ever wanted is a beautiful white kitchen! They wouldn't… Continue reading

The Best Trim for Bathrooms; NOT Cloud White

I always have to include Cloud White in posts I write about trim because it's too commonly used as a go-to, fix-all, no-questions-asked solution.  A client emailed me today with a great question: PinterestIs it okay to have a warmer, off white trim throughout the house but use a brighter white in the bathroom to go with tile and fixtures?… Continue reading
