It’s Rue Magazines first colour issue and I’m thrilled to be included!

First Annual Colour Issue

Check out my tips here.

Tricks of the Trade

Rue’s colour issue is filled with beautiful fashion and interiors, check out the story of this Pink + White apartment in Toronto:

Hot Pink + White

I love what Tiffany Pratt (above) said about the colour in her interior:

Quote

White and gray adds the sophistication you need to bright colour so that you don’t end up with a space that looks like a kids room.

In this interior in Manhattan, I love how the homeowner decorated around her TV:

Great tips, Maria-that is wonderful that you are included in the first edition of the color version of Rue-it was interesting to read all of the stories of how people are designing their apartments-it takes a lot of creativity in smaller spaces, to get the look just right-Congrats!

Reading your newsletter/blog is a bright spot in my day — I know, a bad pun, but seeing these pictures and reading about color and design helps me focus on getting through the busywork of my downsizing projects and on with the creative part of improving my house and my life. Thank you, and congratulations on your success.

  • That’s great, Maria! What a fun magazine, and I’m sure everyone will love your tips 🙂

Apparently one of the now leading issues with toddlers is flat screens falling on them. I wish every photo of a flat screen would be mounted to the wall so people just thought it was the norm from now on. We still haven’t bought our mount. They should sell them with the tv. Watch for legislation on this someday if it continues to be a problem. Low tv stands, bigger and bigger flat screens….

    • BillP says:

The last thing we need is legislation on flat screen tv placement.

    • Kathi says:

Our flat screen came with a strong, thin, safety cable set to attach it to the wall, its really secure sitting on a low cabinet, and almost invisible if you look at it from the side! I am not a fan of wall mounts unless they are pre-wired and you don’t have to have all of the electric and cable cords hanging down-I like french antiques, asian cabinets or hand painted cabinets underneath, or anything that is really interesting!

I’m glad you wrote about the dark colors in a dark room, myth dispelled. This is the most difficult to convince people of. I went round & round in the past with windowless powder rooms. One of them had pine natural stained bead board half way up the wall.
That room sang after I did it in a rich dark coffee Aura color.
Well done and styled article— Good for you, Maria!
