Maria’s Favourite Trends from Fall 2014 High Point Market

By 10/26/2014January 28th, 201713 Comments

I love attending High Point Market each season, now that I’ve decided that’s where you’ll find me every Spring and Fall even though it takes me an entire day to get all the way to the Southeast from the Northwest.

I’m actually giving up two other annual conferences I attend each year, because I find High Point to be–by far–a way better place to network with other designers and brands, get updated on all the new trends, attend educational events and find things you won’t find anywhere else.

Lisa Mende (above) wrote a fabulous post last year outlining everything you need to know from what to wear to how to plan your trip here.

If you are in the design industry, consider attending at least once a year if you can!

Here are my pics for this season:

Gold and Copper lighting was everywhere.

Kelly Wearstler (above and below) debuted a lighting collection at Visual Comfort.

I’m always drawn to beautiful lighting that doesn’t need to be hard wired (above) since it’s so much easier to install. Hang it, plug it in and you have instant atmosphere!

I loved these petrified wood table tops at Bernhardt! Notice they match my shoes!

Of course I would be drawn to the adorable sets of dog and bird ornaments at Global Views. Notice, not a lot of chrome finishes here!

Did you know I’m a member of the Style & Design Guild with Pratt & Lambert? Well they sent me two questions to answer about market this Fall:

1. What are your initial thoughts about the show this year?

How much stunning and bright colour was everywhere in furniture and accessories! Colour is in the spotlight with greys, whites and navy blues providing a crisp backdrop.

2. What are you particularly excited about?

As trendy as copper and gold is, it certainly warms up white and adds a sophisticated look and feel to furniture and accessories.

For more trends, see the Pinterest boards of this years Market Style Spotters here.

So that’s my take on the show this year! Which trend is your favourite?

Maria, This is such a good post and it takes me so long to go through it because I click on every link and analyze each one. You must have had so much fun at market. There is so much to see.

I also like the plug-in sconce. It is so romantic! Your shoes are fantastic also. What brand – can you share? I really like Kara Cox website. She features a picture of her work and then also some detail in the room. We are so lucky to have your blog and inspiration. It makes my day!

  • Thanks for including me on your fabulous blog! Love spending time with you in High Point! Looking forward to next market! I’ll be writing my trend report soon! You nailed some of the same things I saw as trends! Happy Monday!!

    Hi Maria,
I like plug-in lights that include a cord cover. I prefer not to see the cord running down the wall.
Love your shoes. But I couldn’t walk in heels all day.

Thanks for this post…love that plug-in light!

“Global Views” has certainly received “a lot of print” after High Point…I especially luv’d their acrylic chair!! franki p.s. dyno-mite shoes!!

The plug in wall sconce is so attractive and practical. Petrified wood table tops are very dramatic and high contrast and handsome. Love the turquoise with yellow and copper clusters. Great post, Maria, as always.

Love your animal print shoes, Maria! Glad you had fun at High Point!

  • Deborah McKenzie says:

I too am loving the warm toned metals of copper and matte gold. I would love your thoughts on mixing these metals with chrome and silver.

  • Betsy says:

Not sure about any of these new “trends” but you look beautiful in the group photo. Love the masses of pearl necklaces and the white silhouette rose print top. So classic!

  • Brigette says:

I can also tell you that copper is everywhere here in Europe, worldwide trend!! I’ve seen people creating lights out of old copper pots & pans, and I’m suddenly seeing my mother-in-law’s collection of copper pots as much more than dust catchers!!!

  • This is a great blog post, Maria! You nailed the one thing we were all seeing so much of: Copper! It was everywhere from lighting, to fabric, accessories, and more. It will be interesting to see if it catches on for a while, or if we will continue to see the emphasis on brass, as I noticed during the Spring market.

As always, it was great seeing you in the Kravet showroom, albeit quickly : ) Happy to know you’ve decided to return in this direction twice a year.
See you in th Spring! Hugs! xo

Love the shoes, they’re awesome! The Palecek tables are spectacular, I remember that the Palaecek showroom at market in Atlanta was always very eclectic and had some very unusual designs. I regularly bought their innovative baskets for my shop, they were top quality. That was 15-20 years ago, judging by their web site it seems they haven’t changed…. I like the K. Wearstler lighting very much, especially the interesting copper piece. The sconce is lovely as well. What a great update on market trends Maria, thank you!
