Ten Things I Want for Christmas in 2011

By 12/16/2011January 28th, 201729 Comments

This is not a list of ideas for gifts but maybe you’ll get one or two when I post mine! Here they are just for fun!

1. A Better Camera.

source

Okay, so I am embarrassed to tell you that any photos you see on this blog that I have taken are with my little point and shoot which I carry around in my purse at all times! I need a better one ASAP! So I can take cool shots like this one (above).

2. A Terrycloth Bathrobe.

source

Okay, in all seriousness, can someone tell me why every bathrobe out there these days is polyester fleece. Eeeeeeeew! I mean it just seems weird (although I’ve never put one on). I can’t find a terry cloth version and the turquoise one I bought from Costco forever ago is ancient! I mean I’m embarrassed to answer the door when the courier arrives! Maybe I just need to resort to lounge wear instead. I would take one as happy is this little angels robe.

3. Apple Nano

source

I have a really old one and the volume barely even works. The only time I don’t use it when I’m working out is when I run in the nearby trails in the Spring. I like to listen to the birds chirping instead.

4. Crate & Barrel

source

Toronto and Calgary have one. Why can’t we have one here in Vancouver!

Santa, I would be sooooo good if you would just place one here right in my neighbourhood on December 24th? Might as well drop a West Elm, Wisteria and J. Crew while you’re at it!

5. A Chanel Evening Bag

source

When I think about how much money I have spent on web design alone this year, I could have bought this bag many times over. Instead, I have a pretty website.

I love this bag, I would love to own it at some point.

6. Long Hair

source

When I was little, I used to dream about having really looooong , thick and curly hair. Mine was straight and thin. Still is and it won’t ever be longer than it is now. A girl can dream.

7. A Place in the Country Close to My Sisters and Nephews

source

source

I can’t ever imagine living away from the city because I do like the idea of culture even though I mostly stay at home most nights and blog. So, I would like to own a home in Vancouver and another one in the country where I can spend weekends hanging out with my nephews. That would be perfection.

8. Stacking Rings

source

I would like to own one in every colour (in silver and gold) so I could switch them out to match whatever I was wearing. So happy!

9. My Two Sisters to Become Friends Again.

source

I have three younger sisters and the two middle sisters have not spoken to each other since my uncle died 2 1/2 years ago when they had a huge fight.  Since then, family gatherings are an issue — one or the other won’t attend. I don’t think they even remember what it was about anymore. It would be great if they could be in love again this Christmas.

10. My eBook to be a Bestseller!

Yahoo, wouldn’t that be awesome!

Book Cover Photo by Jennifer Houghton

Here’s the cover as of today! My eBook will be launched this Tuesday, barely in time for Christmas! I’m very excited!  It’s been a lot of work but I know you’ll love it! Irene, my design associate and book editor has magically been able to take my book and turn it into language that really explains so many concepts I have talked about in this blog over and over.

What’s on your Christmas list this year? I’ll be posting the Christmas tour of my house on Sunday! Can’t wait to show you!

Download my eBook, It’s All in the Undertones. If you have a computer, you can download my book!

Maria, I enjoy all your posts. I have an IPad and I have yet to buy my first electronic book. I am going to make your book my first ebook. I hope you sell so many ebooks that you go out and buy that Chanel bag. May your biggest Christmas wish come true and your sisters resolve their differences. Merry Christmas!

  • I just wanted to say Merry Christmas and I hope that #9 comes true. Funerals can really get people’s emotions running high, it would be sad if your sisters could only see each other at future funerals!

  • SR says:

Rumour has it that C&B is opening at Oakridge Mall in 2012… Fingers crossed!

  • Kathi says:

Maria, I am so excited to buy your book, it is my way of thanking you for the fantastic free advice that you have given me through the hundreds of posts that you have done, I quote you all of the time to my friends,I fiqured you have saved me a bundle of money from making a lot of decorating mistakes over the past few years, plus your book will be a great reference for me, I need all the help I can get! I wish you nothing but happiness, joy and success in 2012, plus a prayer for your sisters to knock it off before another day goes by.I lost my best friend of 45 years and I would give anything to see or speak to her just one more time-life is fragile-you don’t get do overs! this is it!

  • Top of my list is a camera too. I’m also embarrassed to say that all my photos are with a point and shoot – terrific for those quick shots of that wonderful couch when you’re out shopping, terrible for taking close-ups of anything blogworthy.

Whatever you get, I hope you have a joy filled Christmas.

P.S. Can’t wait to see the book.

  • Paula Van Hoogen says:

Maria, I echo Kathi (above), and will pray for your sisters. God is able. It’s refreshing to read your list.
May you be blessed with all your heart desires!
    Merry Christmas !

  • Donna Frasca says:

Great post. I always end the year with a Bucket List and I’m running late with it! By the way, a new camera is an expense but so very worth it. I had a little point and shoot in my purse that I thought took great pics until I bought (it was actually given to me) a Sony Cybershot. BIG difference!! My son is heavily into photography and the online prices of B&H seem to be unbeatable. Here’s there link, pick out a good one!

You always offer such great life advice with your decorating guidance. May Santa generously leave that Chanel bag under the tree and your sisters grow up and realize time is short and sisters are forever precious.
    Merry Christmas!

  • I am with you on the terry cloth bath robes, I don’t own one because I can’t bring myself to buy a polyester one. I just really prefer natural fibers!

I help you wishing for your sisters to get along, I hope they’ll realize that sisters are more precious than anything they might have been fighting about!

  • Oh yes… I too want a Channel evening purse. Agree with the Terry bathrobe…..none to be found anywhere!!!! Grrrr. I have two sisters and three daughters and can’t imagine us (them) not having a relationship….so fngers crossed for your wish #9. Your ebook cover IS PERFECT…..I LOVE it!
    Merry Christmas!

  • Christian says:

I love the cover of your book! I think it will be a huge hit – I have learned so much from this blog alone and I know there is a real desire to learn how to make our homes a special place through color. Good luck w/ the launch!

  • Carol Ray says:

Praying for #9. And I’m praying BOLDLY!!!!

  • Sue says:

I was reading your list and came to #9 and it hit me like a ton of bricks! Same situation has happened in our family. My older sister has cut off contact with all of her siblings. The article inspired me to send her a olive branch via e mail. I hope she will respond. I do hope that your two sisters will find a way to mend the rift in their relationship this Christmas. Life is too short.

  • Yes, I would love the long blonde hair too!
I have a Sony CyberShot 14.1 mega-pixels and it’s great, not all that $, got my at office depot.
The cover of your book is wonderful – Will you do a book tour?
Have a great holiday and a happy new year!

  • Great list! I hope your sisters find their way back to each other. I can’t imagine not having my 2sisters by my side through thick and thin. Also,
what a void you must feel at family gatherings. Good luck….maybe some loving intervention is needed :). Have a wonderful holiday, may all you wishes come true. Can’t wait for the book and hopefully the webinar will follow soon!

  • Ronda says:

I will help you promote your book and as far as that long thick healthy hair – you do know I can help you with that….right? My hair is longer than it has ever been….just saying!
Hugs and love and Happy Holiday’s!!
    Ronda

  • Loved the post and how brave are you!! Among other things, my most wished is for my oldest daughter to open her heart and be part of my life along with her children and husband. She hasn’t spoken to me since I divorced her father and I have never held my grandchildren. That would be Christmas.

  • Emily Moen says:

Sorry – we have a C & B in Edmonton also! Hopefully Vancouver gets one SOON… And more importantly may you be blessed with family harmony – that would be the greatest gift of all. Please tell your sisters that people everywhere are praying for reconciliation. Wishing you more joy in 2012!

  • Heather says:

Maria, what a fabulous post! I think it is perfect that you have put all those wants and desires out there in the universe! Love the cover of your new e-book, looks so beachy – congratulations!

  • Cynthia says:

    Maria
I am so sorry to hear of your sisters being estranged.
Just tonight someone said to me “life is not long enough to have even one enemy” How tragic that it would be family. Praying that there will be healing and restoration in your family.
    Merry Christmas
    Cynthia

  • Grace says:

What a lovely heartfelt list. I’m hoping #9 happens too.

  • KJ says:

So so sad about your sisters :(. #1 reminds me of a comment I read once: good cookware doesn’t make you a good chef, and a good camera doesn’t make you a good photographer.

  • Eva says:

I have known many people to make up after taking the Landmark Forum. I know some think it’s a strange self development course, but it works sooo often. Perhaps they could take it (seperately)?

  • Maria, your number 9 bought me to tears! My Mum and I are like that and it has been 18 months since we have been friends. You have just shown me how much it effects every body in the family. I will make 2012 the year to love my Mum again xo

  • Michelle says:

Maria, just read through your 2012 post about getting what we want. Linked here so I read through this post as well. I know lots of people in families are peacemakers and just want everyone to get along. However, that is not possible. And sometimes “just getting over it” is not the answer. I’ve been estranged from my family for 7 years…lots of therapy and counseling along the way and am justified in my decision. Just thought felt I had to comment as it is okay not to be friends with your family.
